Travis Barker reveals the key marriage rule he and Kourtney Kardashian follow: resolving disagreements before bed and staying emotionally connected, while the Blink-182 drummer also opens up about family life, his documentary Louder Than Fear, and how Kourtney has influenced his life.
Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker has revealed the simple relationship rule he and wife Kourtney Kardashian follow to keep their marriage healthy and emotionally connected. According to Barker, the couple makes an effort to resolve disagreements before going to sleep rather than allowing anger or misunderstandings to carry over into the next day.
Barker, who married Kardashian in May 2022 after the couple began dating in 2021, opened up about their approach to communication and conflict resolution. He explained that even minor disagreements are addressed because maintaining a sense of connection is important to their relationship.
The drummer said the couple tries not to “ever fall asleep mad at each other,” emphasizing the importance of talking through issues, even when the disagreement is something relatively small. He explained that situations such as missed messages or misunderstandings about plans can be resolved through honest communication and accountability.
Barker gave the example of a situation in which one partner might expect to meet the other for lunch but fail to receive a response to a message. Rather than allowing the misunderstanding to create distance, the couple tries to discuss what happened and acknowledge their respective roles in the situation.
For Barker, the goal is not necessarily to completely solve every problem immediately, but to ensure that neither person goes to bed feeling disconnected from the other. He described taking accountability and apologising when necessary as an important part of maintaining their relationship.
The couple’s marriage also brings together a blended family. Kardashian shares three children — Mason, Penelope and Reign — with her former partner Scott Disick. Barker, meanwhile, has two children, Landon and Alabama, with his former wife Shanna Moakler. Their family life has become an important part of their relationship as they navigate marriage, parenting and their respective careers.
Barker’s comments come as he continues to promote his new documentary, Louder Than Fear, which explores different aspects of his personal life and musical career. The film also looks at the lasting impact of the 2008 plane crash that left Barker with a fear of flying.
Directors Justin Krook and Michael Dwyer have discussed Barker’s journey in the documentary and the ways his relationship with Kardashian has influenced his life. During the production process, the filmmakers joined Barker aboard the Queen Mary 2 as he travelled by boat for a European tour, highlighting the drummer’s continued efforts to manage the trauma associated with flying.
Barker has remained one of the most recognizable figures in pop-punk music through his work with Blink-182. Beyond his career as a drummer, his marriage to Kardashian has also attracted significant public attention, bringing together two prominent personalities from music and reality television.
Kardashian first rose to worldwide fame through Keeping Up with the Kardashians, which became a major reality television success and later produced several spin-off series, including Kourtney and Kim Take Miami and Kourtney and Kim Take New York. After the original series ended in 2021 following 20 seasons, Kardashian and her family returned to television with The Kardashians on Hulu in 2022.

Barker and Kardashian have continued to share aspects of their family and relationship with the public. His latest comments offer a glimpse into the couple’s personal approach to marriage, with communication, accountability and resolving disagreements emerging as key elements of their relationship.
For the Blink-182 drummer, keeping the connection strong appears to be more important than allowing small disagreements to become lasting conflicts. His marriage rule with Kardashian is ultimately centered on addressing problems, apologising when needed and making sure neither partner goes to bed feeling emotionally distant.
