Tripura Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury urged the swift completion and efficient management of the Inter-state Truck Terminal at Madhavbari, Jirania. Emphasizing coordination and discipline, he directed officials to prevent disorder and enhance terminal operations, aiming to transform it into a key regional logistics hub.
In a move aimed at boosting regional logistics and interstate trade, Tripura Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Sunday emphasized the urgent need for timely completion and effective management of the Inter-state Truck Terminal (ISTT) at Madhavbari in Jirania. Addressing a high-level meeting of the Interstate Truck Terminal Development Society held at the terminal’s conference hall, the minister highlighted several critical aspects concerning the terminal’s operations, pending infrastructure, and administrative challenges.
The Inter-state Truck Terminal at Madhavbari, envisioned as a vital logistics hub for Tripura and its neighboring states, has seen delays in construction and management streamlining. Minister Chowdhury expressed his concern regarding the slow pace of progress and called upon all departments and stakeholders to accelerate the remaining work without any further delay.
“Smooth and efficient functioning of the truck terminal is essential for Tripura’s growing logistics and transportation sector,” said Chowdhury. “All unfinished work must be completed on a priority basis, and there should be no compromise in the quality of services and facilities provided at this terminal.”
He further urged for effective coordination among the various agencies and departments involved in the project. From infrastructure development and safety protocols to administrative supervision and service delivery, the minister underlined that every stakeholder has a crucial role in ensuring the terminal becomes a well-regulated and disciplined facility.
During the meeting, Chowdhury issued specific instructions to administrative officials and law enforcement representatives to maintain strict vigilance within the terminal premises. He stressed the importance of preventing any kind of disorder or misconduct by truck drivers, terminal staff, or other individuals operating within the compound. “A robust system of supervision and accountability must be established. Any incidents of disorder can affect the image and efficiency of the terminal,” he warned.
A central theme of Chowdhury’s address was the need for clear distribution of responsibilities among different agencies and personnel. According to him, a lack of coordination can lead to operational inefficiencies and administrative lapses. “Professionalism and mutual cooperation must be the guiding principles in running this terminal,” he added.
The meeting was attended by a range of dignitaries and officials, reflecting the multi-departmental importance of the terminal’s development. Present at the event were Jirania Panchayat Samiti Chairman Pritam Debnath, Ranirbazar Municipal Council Vice-Chairperson Prabir Kumar Das, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Animesh Dhar, Additional Superintendent of Police (Sadar Rural) Himadri Prasad Das, along with prominent social worker Gauranga Bhowmik, Ranjit Ray Choudhury, and several members of the Terminal Development Society. Representatives from the Public Works Department (PWD) and other associated departments also participated in the discussions.
Attendees at the meeting collectively expressed support for the minister’s vision and acknowledged the need for improved coordination and management. Discussions also included long-term plans for incorporating digital monitoring systems, logistics automation, and dedicated grievance redressal cells to address truck drivers’ concerns and stakeholder feedback.
The Inter-state Truck Terminal at Madhavbari is expected to serve as a vital node for transportation between Tripura and other northeastern states, especially in the context of the government’s vision for improving regional trade routes and infrastructure under the Act East Policy. Once fully operational, it will streamline cargo handling, reduce traffic congestion on highways, and provide essential amenities for truckers and logistics personnel.
Minister Chowdhury’s call to action signals a renewed commitment from the state government to ensure that the ISTT project not only meets infrastructural standards but also becomes a model of administrative efficiency and inter-agency cooperation. The Transport Department is likely to issue further directives in the coming weeks to ensure the implementation of the points discussed during the meeting.
