Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) which  opted to refrain from contesting the upcoming bye-elections in the state and pledged its support to the opposition candidates from the Communist Party of India (Marxist) now has taken initiative to strengthen its unit-starting from its SC cell.

TPCC President Asish Kumar Saha chaired a meeting on Sunday at the Agartala party office, bringing together key functionaries of the Congress’s Scheduled Caste (SC) unit. During the meeting, Saha emphasized the Congress party’s commitment to strengthening its organizational units across the state, gearing up for the impending 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

“The Congress is actively working to reinforce its party units throughout Tripura, preparing them to spearhead movements against the incumbent BJP government, which has been perceived as indifferent to the state’s development,” stated Saha during a press briefing.

Saha went on to explain the specific efforts directed towards the SC unit of the party, saying, “Just like our other units, we are dedicated to enhancing the strength of our Scheduled Caste unit through constructive dialogues among unit leaders, workers, and top-level leadership. There’s a pressing need to intensify our movement against the BJP government, which has been accused of neglecting the welfare of people from SC communities within the state.”

This move comes after a meeting held on the previous Friday, where PCC President Ashish Kumar Saha chaired a session with the Adivasi Congress Committee. During this gathering, the Congress party committed to empowering the indigenous tribes of Tripura, further indicating their dedication to broadening their base of support.

The TPCC’s decision to forgo contesting the bye-elections and focus on strengthening its party infrastructure signals a calculated approach to bolstering its presence in the state ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. As political dynamics continue to evolve in Tripura, the upcoming years promise to be pivotal in determining the state’s political landscape.
