Two elephants named as Motilal and Madhu were shifted from Sepahijala Wildlife sanctuary to the newly built elephant camp at Teliamura Mungiakami on Friday.
The state forest department had built an Elephant Camp at Mungiakami in Teliamura to attract tourists and make elephants easily visible for them. The camp also aims at elephant conservation, where arrangements were made to preserve elephants rescued from different parts of the state.
In the first phase, out of the four elephants in Sepahijala wildlife sanctuary, two elephants - Motilal and Madhu were taken to Mungiakami, said Chief Wildlife Warden RK Samal on Friday.
Madhu was rescued by Udaipur Forest Department in 2005 and sent to Sepahijala Sanctuary and Motilal was brought from Kailashahar in 2007. Motilal and Madhu were nurtured by the staff of Sepahijala Sanctuary since then.
At present there are two other elephants named Kishore and Gitarani in the Sepahijala Sanctuary. Arrangements will be made in a few days and they too will be taken to Mungiakami.
