Tripura's Traffic Police Superintendent Manik Das recently announced that the state has achieved significantly lower accident and fatality rates than the national average.
Speaking at the 'Rashtriya Ekta Diwas' and Police Commemoration Day at Agartala’s Town Hall, Das shared data highlighting Tripura's effective traffic management practices, positioning the state ahead of other northeastern regions, including Assam.
Tripura reports an accident rate per one lakh population that is nearly one-third of the national figure. Fatalities from road accidents in the state stand at 6.2 per lakh population annually, notably lower than the national average of 12. However, despite these positive statistics, over 250 people still lose their lives in road accidents each year in Tripura.
Das stressed the ongoing need for enhanced public awareness and adherence to traffic rules to further reduce accidents and fatalities, aiming for a safer environment on Tripura’s roads.
