Tripura Designer Jyotsana Dev Verman presented her collection with Traditional Weaves and Handicrafts of the state which was highly appreciated by the Fashion Connoisseurs of Istanbul. She was participating in the North East Institute of Fashion Technology (NEIFT) conducted the mega event: ‘Celebrating North East India Festival’ in Istanbul, Turkiye.
The Festival is being held for the last 18 years for a holistic promotion of North East India’s Tourism Sector, Textiles & Handicrafts Sector, etc. After the last International Editions at Ronald Reagan International Building and Trade Centre, Washington D.C., USA and at Villa Necchi Campiglio, Milan, Italy, the 19th Edition took place in a grand manner on September 6 last at Istanbul, Turkiye in collaboration with Consulate General of India, Istanbul.
Nyato Dukam, Minister of Industries & Commerce, Textiles & Handicrafts etc. Arunachal Pradesh, C.Lalsawivunga, Minister of Art & Culture, Mizoram, Devesh Deval, Commissioner of Tourism, Manipur, Cyril V.D. Diengdoh, Secretary to Chief Minister and Director of Tourism, Meghalaya and many officials and dignitaries of NER States attended the festival.
The Festival Director and CEO of NEIFT Vikram Rai Medhi welcomed the gathering and spoke about the tremendous potentials of North East India’s Textiles, Handicrafts, Tourism, Investment Opportunities and expressed his thanks to all the Ministries and State Governments for coming together to present a vibrant North East to the people of Turkiye.
The Consul General of India, Istanbul MijitoVinito in his address acknowledged that an event of this nature and magnitude was held for the first time in Turkiye and this festival would create opportunities for the Weavers and the Crafts People of both the Nations come together to build up long term Relations of working together.
Twenty Seven (27) Consul Generals of various Countries such as Australia, Denmark, USA, UK, Brazil etc. attended the programme along with the political, bureaucratic, fashion world, civil society and media fraternity of Istanbul.
State Governments of Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Manipur, Meghalaya and Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India were official partners to the event. A strong Contingent of 54 members consisting of Designers, Models, Folk Artists, Entrepreneurs, Officials etc. travelled from the North Eastern States to historic city of Istanbul.
Rai Medhi also expressed his gratitude to Turkiye based organizations like CELEBI, BE Academy, IFA Paris and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality for being Associate Partners of the Festival.
Besides the Cultural Programme and Fashion Shows, there was Thematic Pavilions of the participating states highlighting their Textiles, Art & Culture and Tourism Potentials.. The Fashion Show featured nine well known Designers from the Region. The 20th Edition of the festival will now take place at New Delhi on 7th& 8th of December, next.
