Taiwan Braces for Typhoon Krathon as Schools & Offices Close

In Taiwan, schools and offices were shut down today as the island braced for Typhoon Krathon. The Interior Ministry said about 40 thousand troops have been mobilized, and more than 7,700 people have been evacuated.
According to the Central Weather Administration, Typhoon Krathon is expected to hit the southwestern port city of Kaohsiung, with a population of 2.7 million people, tomorrow. Local media reported that the city’s shops and restaurants were closed with several domestic and international flights canceled. Authorities said the typhoon was moving towards the island with maximum sustained winds of 198 kilometres per hour and gusts of 245 kilometres per hour. It is equivalent to a Category 3 hurricane.
