Tripura Pradesh Congress president Pijush Kanti Biswas resigned from his post on Saturday. He submitted his resignation to the AICC chief Sona Gandhi. He was acting as the president since 2019.

The reason behind his sudden resignation is not known but according to party sources, he was asked by the high command to submit his papers. Biswas, however, said he resigned on personal grounds and he would now devote himself in his profession. He happened to be an eminent lawyer of the state.

Sources said, Biswas was peeved for AICC not heeding to his repeated pleas for reconstituting various party wings. He felt the high command was not at all interested about the PCC in the state.

With his resignation now the TPCC remained headless. It was not yet known who would be appointed as the party chief in Tripura. Congress here was traditionally dogged by squabble, factionalism and leadership crisis with too many aspirants eyeing for the post.

In his social media platform Pijush Biswas wrote : With sincere gratitude I thank all Congress Leaders, supporters for your cooperation during my tenure as TPCC President (acting). Today I have resigned from the post of President and retired from politics as well. My sincere gratitude towards Hon’ble Congress President Smt. Sonia Gandhi and Shri Rahul Gandhiji for their support. I am returning to my profession. Jai Hind!!”, Biswas wrote.
