The Ministry of Labour and Employment has informed that by the end of last month, more than 50 lakh workers from the unorganised sector had enrolled for the Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maan-dhan (PM-SYM) Scheme. The scheme was launched in February 2019 in order to provide old age protection to the workers of the unorganised sector in the age group of 18 to 40 years.
In a written reply, Minister of State for Labour and Employment Shobha Karandlaje said, that Haryana has registered the highest number of workers. She added that more than 8.25 lakh unorganised workers from Haryana, over 6.8 lakh from Uttar Pradesh and more than 6.1 lakh unorganised workers from Maharashtra have registered under this scheme.
