Mumbai is set to host the Northeast Trade and Investment Roadshow on December 16, aiming to showcase the investment potential of the northeastern states and foster economic partnerships, officials announced on Saturday. Following successful editions in Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Kolkata, this event will highlight opportunities in key sectors such as bamboo, Agarwood, rubber, tourism, and food processing.
The event is organized by the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER) in collaboration with northeastern state governments, FICCI, and Invest India. Tripura Industries and Commerce Department Director Vishwasree B. confirmed that all eight northeastern states—Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura—will participate in the roadshow.
“We will emphasize investment opportunities in Tripura across multiple sectors, including bamboo, Agarwood, rubber, and tourism,” said Vishwasree B., adding that previous roadshows in Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Kolkata were successful in generating investor interest.
Prominent Leaders to Participate
The event will witness the participation of Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma. DoNER Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia and senior officials from various Union ministries will also attend, alongside representatives from northeastern states.
Highlighting the state government’s efforts, Chief Minister Manik Saha stated that Tripura has secured investment proposals worth over ₹5,900 crore in the past year, with ₹1,000 crore investments already in progress.
A Platform for Collaboration
The Mumbai roadshow will feature Business-to-Government (B2G) meetings, enabling investors to interact directly with state representatives. Presentations from all northeastern states will spotlight investment opportunities in critical sectors, including IT & ITES, entertainment, energy, infrastructure, logistics, education, healthcare, and tourism.
The event aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of “Viksit Bharat and Viksit North East,” emphasizing infrastructure development in roadways, railways, waterways, and airways. These efforts have significantly boosted economic activities and tourism in the region over the past decade.
Roadshow Momentum Builds
Previous roadshows, including one held in Hyderabad and the North East Investors Summit at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi, have generated substantial interest among investors. The Mumbai edition aims to build on this momentum, positioning the city as a financial hub for northeast India’s economic growth.
According to officials, the event will provide valuable insights from ministers and industry leaders, encouraging investors to tap into the region’s untapped potential. "This roadshow is an excellent opportunity for potential investors to become part of northeast India’s thriving investment landscape," an official statement said.
