Lok Sabha: Samajwadi Party MP Akhilesh Yadav Criticizes UP Govt Over Mahakumbh Incident

The Lok Sabha today resumed discussion on the Motion of Thanks on the President’s address to the joint sitting of both the Houses of Parliament. Participating in the discussion, Samajwadi Party MP, Akhilesh Yadav raised the issue of the Mahakumbh incident and accused the Uttar Pradesh government of alleged lapses in handling the proceedings at Prayagraj. He claimed that the country, with its vast potential and resources, has not been able to exploit its true manufacturing potential under the current regime. He said that despite claims of building the modern infrastructure in the country, this government has allegedly failed to live up to the expectations of the people.
Participating in the discussion, All India Trinamool Congress leader and MP, Sougata Ray, said the country is lagging behind several countries in terms of manufacturing, and there was a need to take stringent measures to overcome this deficiency. He said that the government must come out with facts and figures on what has been achieved in the past 10 years under the Make in India initiative.
P. V. Midhun Reddy of YSRCP while speaking during the discussion said that raised the issue of Polavaram Irrigation project and urged the Central Government to construct the project without reducing its capacity.
BJP MP Sanjay Jaiswal said that while the discussion has to focus on what the President has said during her speech, most of the opposition members are talking on issues irrelevant to the topic. He highlighted various achievements of the government. Talking about women empowerment, he said that the government has set a target of making 3 crore “Lakhpati Didis” within a set time frame.
Charanjit Singh Channi of Congress alleged that under the NDA Government farmers and minorities are being discriminated against. Mr Channi accused the government of not fulfilling the promises made during the polls. He demanded Bharat Ratna for former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh.
Dr. Byreddy Shabari of TDP said the entire world is witnessing the growth of the country. She said, The government has given special focus to women, youth, farmers and the middle class. Dr. Shabari said, Andhra Pradesh is contributing significantly in the growth story of India.
Intervening in the discussion, Union Minister and Apna Dal (S) leader Anupriya Patel said, in the last ten years, the Narendra Modi-led NDA government brought significant positive changes in the country through its plans and policies and presented the roadmap of Viksit Bharat. She said, India is now the most attractive global destination for investment. The discussion is underway.
