Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting L. Murugan said that India is rapidly progressing toward the vision of achieving “Viksit Bharat” by 2047, driven by effective government policies and initiatives. The Minister was inaugurating the ‘Sugatha Sookshmavanam’ program at APPM Vocational Higher Secondary School in Avaneeswaram, Kollam, today.

The initiative aims to honour the late poet and environmentalist Sugathakumari by planting 11,340 saplings across 126 schools in Kerala to mark her 90th birth anniversary. The Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to the conservation of the environment and biodiversity.

Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam movement, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on World Environment Day, promotes the importance of greenery and a clean environment, he said. The Minister further added that the government has formulated a long-term strategy to reduce emissions and reach the net-zero target by 2070. Former Mizoram Governor and senior BJP leader Kummanam Rajasekharan and other dignitaries also attended the event.

The Minister, who is on a two-day visit to Kerala, also visited the Amritapuri Ashram in Vallikkavu, Kollam, today. He planted a sapling at the Amrita Viswa Vidyapeetham campus this morning.
