Amara Bangali - which had once been a formidable force in late 1970s and early 1980s strongly opposing the formation of the TTAADC has threatened to launch state wide movement if the Union government or the state government bow down to the TIPRA Motha pressure for division of the state.
In a press conference Amara Bangali leaders expressed serious concern at the way interests of the majority Bengalis are being put on stake with the emergence of the TIPRA Motha.
The organization in a press conference at Agartala Press Club on Friday appealed the Union as well as state government not to surrender to the pressure tactics of the TIPRA Motha and accept any of their demands that would affect the interest of the majority of the people.
“The government must not accept the demand of the Greater Tipraland and any of this sort that would divide the state”, said Gauranga Paul, Amara Bangali leader.
“The Union Home Minister Amit Shah accompanied by the top BJP leaders and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was seen together with the TIPRA Motha representatives in a table of discussion on Wednesday last. It was reported that the Union Home Minister agreed to start the process of dialogue with TIPRA Motha over their 16-point demand,” he told reporters.
He said, “Agreeing to the first two demands of the TIPRA Motha which say formation of union territory as per the Article 1 & 2 of Indian constitution and another formation of autonomous state as per the Article 244(a), means establishment of Greater Tipraland. This perhaps will have serious impact on the existence of the Bengali community in Tripura.”
