The second Continuous Ambient Air Quality Monitoring Station (CAAMQS) is all set to be installed and commissioned in Agartala within December 2021.

This air quality station will record air quality parameters like PM2.5, PM10, greenhouse gases like sulphur oxides, nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide, ozone, and ammonia. The station shall be equipped with sensitive sensors that will collect air samples within a radius of about 1.5 km from the installation site and display the readings of measurements of air quality parameters on real time basis, 24h hours x7 days.

The station will be located in the Bordowali High School, Agartala and its sampling area will cover Nagerjala and Battala on the north side and Drop gate and Siddhi Ashram on the south side. Real-time recordings of air quality data will be displayed through two LED digital screens for public view. One screen (7 ft x 5 ft) will be installed at the rooftop of the Bordowali High School and the other (12ft x 8 ft size) will be installed at the rooftop of the City Centre, Agartala.

The station will also display air quality index (AQI) on real-time basis. AQI is classified in to six categories depending on the score of air quality parameters in different times of the day and in different seasons. The categories are Good (0-50 score), Satisfactory (1-100 score), Moderate (101-200 score), Poor (201-300), very Poor (301-400), Severe (401-500 score).

The up-coming facility will create awareness among the people about the quality of air in our environment.

The first air quality station installed at Gorkhabasti, Agartala has been working without trouble since 1st February 2020. The two LED screens installed at the rooftops of the Sukanata Academy and the Radhnagar Bus Stand continue to display the measurements of AQI and air quality parameters without interruption.
