The much touted Trinamool Congress rally addressed by its all India general secretary Abhishek Bannerjee failed to add much hype though some leaders from BJP switched over to the party in the programme. The TMC, ostensibly to add some extra colour, arranged joining of Rajib Banerjee, BJP’s its national executive member from West Bengal in Agartala programme apart from expected joining of BJP MLA of Tripura Asish Das. But in the wake of the High Court of Tripura order that allowed the venue -– infront of RS Bhawan- for the organizing the rally but restricted attendance to only 500 in view of Covid conditions, the show which was supposed to be a great and massive event turned out to be a damp squib. The gathering at the periphery of the rally –mostly confined to nakabandi spots was also neither at all impressive nor their reactions and responses to the claims seemed loud or spontaneous.
In the rally Bannerjee shared dais among others with TMC Rajya Sabha MP Sushmita Dev, party state unit convenor Subal Bhowmik, West Bengal leader Kunal Ghosh . Bannerjee in his speech exuded confidence that in 2023 elections TMC would wrest the power from BJP in Tripura while admitting the fact that earlier the party did not give importance to Tripura. But this time TMC is serious, he claimed.
Apart from that Bannerjee also claimed TMC would form government in Goa in next assembly elections.
Rajib Banerjee said that it was his mistake to join the BJP, which according to him gave false promises to the people to gain political and electoral mileage.
“I apologise to Mamata Banerjee, Abhishek Banerjee and all the people for joining the BJP. I am ashamed and feel guilty to join the BJP. Whatever responsibility the party (Trinamool) gives me, I with all sincerity perform the task,” an emotionally charged Banerjee told the gathering.
