TIPRA Motha and ruling coalition partner IPFT along with some other smaller regional parties decided to join hands and come on one platform to press for a separate land for the indigenous people. The realignment of regional parties is a new development in Tripura politics whch will go to polls within one and half years,.
A meeting at Gitanjali Guest house took place today where TIPRA Motha chairman Pradyot Kishore Debbarman, IPFT leader and minister Mevar Kumar Jamatia and others discussed the issue in threadbare.
Although the tribal leaders failed to reach a consensus on the nomenclature of the proposed separate land—TIPRA pressing for Greater Tipraland and IPFT for Tipraland,- they however agreed to form a Joint movement committee to go ahead with a movement.
In the press conference after the meeting both the TIPRA and IPFT leaders maintained ambiguity over the name of the proposed state, but later an IPFT leader said, the nomenclature would not be a stumbling block as all regional parties decided to move jointly- in that case a Tipraland name would also suffice. He indicated that Pradyot Kishore Debbarman might also come down from the absurd ‘Greater Tipraland’ and also its proposed geographical area for more realistic ‘Tipraland’.
Debbarman said that the TIPRA Motha would hold a demonstration in Delhi to press for their demand in later part of this month. The other parties would also chalk out their own programmes and might also join the TIPRA Motha. He indicated that the party would also meet Home Minister Amit Shah.
‘Whatever the programme and agitation schedule it was decided in the meeting that a memorandum that would be submitted to New Delhi would be the same”, Debbarman said.
