Tripura’s Social Welfare Department hosted a workshop in Agartala to raise awareness on women’s legal rights and welfare schemes. Minister Tinku Roy emphasized the state’s commitment to women empowerment and curbing child marriage through awareness and law enforcement initiatives.

The Directorate of Social Welfare and Social Education, Government of Tripura, organized a one-day workshop on women-related laws and departmental schemes at Pragna Bhavan on Monday.

The workshop was formally inaugurated by Minister for Social Welfare and Social Education, Tinku Roy, in the presence of key officials including Department Secretary Tapas Ray and Additional Director L Hranchal. The event witnessed active participation from various stakeholders and representatives working in the field of women’s welfare across the state.

Speaking at the inauguration, Minister Tinku Roy underlined the need for increased awareness regarding women’s rights and the various legal and institutional mechanisms in place to protect them. “Empowering women and safeguarding their rights is one of the core objectives of the state government. Awareness of legal provisions is essential for ensuring justice, safety, and equal opportunity for women,” he stated.

The minister emphasized that such workshops not only inform participants about their rights but also create clarity on the range of welfare schemes initiated by the department for women’s development. These initiatives are instrumental in making women more self-reliant and integrated into the state’s growth story.

Addressing media queries, Minister Roy also highlighted the government’s concern over the growing number of child marriage cases in Tripura. He stated that the department has intensified efforts to counter this issue through robust awareness campaigns and strict law enforcement.

“We are committed to ending the practice of child marriage in the state. Along with legal action, we are focusing on public education to change the mindset and protect the future of our young girls,” the minister affirmed.

He further added that the state is conducting similar awareness camps across various districts to promote knowledge about women-centric laws and schemes, ensuring that even the remotest communities are reached.

Experts also shared insights on best practices, policy implementation, and strategies to increase community participation in safeguarding women’s rights.

The initiative has been widely appreciated as a proactive step by the Tripura government to strengthen the institutional framework for gender justice and empowerment. It is expected that such workshops will not only build awareness but also lay the foundation for more inclusive governance and social change.
