New York: Elon Musks Tesla has reduced the prices of its electric cars in the United States, its website showed on Thursday, apparently to offer discounts to potential customers in light of an economic slowdown.

According to a Reuters report, the discounts range from 1.9% on the performance variant of the Model 3 to 5.6% on the base variant of the Model S.

There has been no immediate response from Tesla regarding these reductions, the report said.

Teslas decision to lower prices on its electric vehicles in the United States comes in line with CEO Elon Musks comments in recent months that the company would focus on reducing prices to boost demand.

The move has already proved successful in generating orders, following the introduction of global discounts in January.

Tesla has cut the prices of both versions of its Model S, with the basic version being reduced by 5.6% to $84,990, and the performance Plaid variant being cut by 4.5% to $104,990, according to the report.

The prices of both the basic and performance versions of Model 3 have also been reduced by $1,000. The basic version of Model 3 is now priced at $41,990, down by 2.3%, while the performance version has been reduced by 1.9% to $52,990, it added.
