In Jammu and Kashmir, in a joint operation by the Army’s Romeo Force and the Special Operations Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir Police, a terrorist hideout was busted in Poonch district yesterday. Security forces successfully dismantled the terrorist hideout in the Khanetar Top area of Poonch district. Acting on specific intelligence inputs regarding the possible presence of a terror consignment, security forces launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in the Khanetar Top area. The meticulous search operation resulted in the seizure of a significant cache, including two pistols with two magazines and 24 rounds of 9 mm cartridges, six hand grenades, one Under Barrel Grenade Launcher (UBGL), two Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) with an electronic detonation set and a large quantity of additional ammunition and explosives. A defence spokesman said the recovered IEDs and an electronic device suggest that terrorists were planning a targeted attack, potentially aimed at disrupting peace in the region. The seizure is believed to be part of a broader network of weapons smuggling intended to revive terrorism in J&K, he said, adding that this operation marks another success in the ongoing efforts to dismantle the terror ecosystem in J&K.
