Telangana CM KCR to float national party; eyes a bigger role in Central politics

Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) chief and Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, popularly known as KCR, Sunday announced that he will soon float a national party and the work to formulate its policies has started, media reports said.

“There has been a consensus on the alternative national agenda after prolonged discussions with intellectuals, economists and experts from various fields like we did before the start of Telangana movement,” an official release from KCR’s office said, Indian Express reported.

“Very soon, the formation of a national party and formulation of its policies will take place,” the release added.

KCR has been eyeing a larger national role, a stand he particularly intensified after BJP went full throttle challenging his party TSR’s position in Telangana.

Earlier, KCR  toured the states, meeting the chiefs of the Opposition parties like Mamata Banerjee and Akhilesh Yadav as part of his efforts to unite non-Congress parties.

He also met Bihar chief Minister Nitish Kumar and his deputy RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav, after the JD(U) chief ditched BJP to lead a new government with old allies in the state.

On Sunday, he met Janata Dal (Secular) leader HD Kumaraswamy in Hyderabad, in a follow-up to their meeting in Bengaluru in May.

Reports citing sources said the two leaders discussed the current situation in national politics and other issues.

In May, he had also visited Delhi and Chandigarh, apart from Karnataka.

Reports have said that KCR has been discussing with regional parties seeking a Congress-free alliance in view of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls and bigger roles for them at the national level.

KCR is also seeking the support of the Left parties, civil society, and intellectuals as part of his efforts to unseat the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre and weaken its sweeping popularity across the country.
