In Tamil Nadu, a total electorate of five crore and 75 lakh voters have exercised their franchise in a single-phase election today. This is the first election after a special intensive Revision. The polling went on smoothly with massive voter turnout amidst tight security. People started queueing up even before 7 am to cast their votes at the polling booths. It had been steadily increasing as the day went by. Youngsters were seen in large numbers and voted. Tamil Nadu has created a record turnout of 84.73% polling, according to the latest status.
Tamil Nadu has shown a successful display of its decision. Out of the 38 districts in the State, 32 have registered over 80% votes. This has beaten the 2011 record created after delimitation, when it was 78% votes. The maximum votes have been recorded at Karur with 92% votes, followed by Salem, Dharmapuri and Erode with over 90% of the votes. The western districts of the State have registered more votes than the other parts of the State. Chennai District has recorded 83.44% of the votes. Out of the 16 constituencies in Chennai, twelve of them have registered over 80% votes. RK Nagar and Perambur constituencies have recorded over 89%. The Perundurai Assembly constituency has over 92% votes, and Bhavani has over 91% votes. Well, it remains to be seen whether this election will definitely be a game-changer in Tamil Nadu politics. Yes, it will be known on 4th May. The participation of young voters in electoral politics has brought much enthusiasm to the political arena. The contribution of the western districts has been surprising since almost all the districts have registered a massive turnout. The voters who have been issued tokens are inside the respective polling booths. After the completion of the polls, the EVMs will be brought to the strong rooms with high security. All the vehicles which carry EVMs are secured with GPS to track the movement.
