With the water level of the Manu River in Kailashahar rising dangerously due to recent heavy rains, several areas of the subdivision are on the brink of submergence. The swelling river has already flooded homes in multiple villages, prompting residents to seek refuge in local relief camps. As the river’s waters approach the danger level, areas within Jalai Gram Panchayat, Kaulikura Gram Panchayat, and Latiapura Gram Panchayat have begun to collapse, exacerbating the crisis.
In response to the emergency, District Magistrates, Additional District Magistrates, and Sub-District Magistrates swiftly visited the affected areas during the night. Minister Tinku Roy also went on-site to speak directly with the affected residents and assess the damage. During his visit on Sunday morning, he was accompanied by Unakoti Zilla Parishad President Amlendu Das, District Magistrate Dilip Kumar Chakma, Agriculture Officer Parag Roy Chowdhury, Jalai Gram Panchayat Pradhan Shilpi Sarkar Deb, Gaurnagar Panchayat Samiti member Nipesh Das, and other officials.
Minister Roy reassured the residents that there was no need to panic and emphasized that the administration was taking the situation very seriously. He informed the people that the government had already implemented several master plans to prevent the erosion of the Manu River. These plans are designed to mitigate the impact of the flooding and ensure the safety of the communities.
On a separate note, GB Hospital in Agartala is preparing for its historic first kidney transplant operations scheduled for tomorrow. Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha visited the hospital on Sunday evening to oversee the preparations. Dr. Saha, who also serves as the Health Minister of Tripura, met with the kidney donor and recipient, and held discussions with the attending doctors and other officials. He extended his best wishes to everyone involved in the operation, highlighting this milestone achievement for the state’s medical field.
