North Tripura launched the Swachhata Rath Yatra on October 2 to promote cleanliness, source-level waste segregation and responsible waste management. The week-long awareness campaign will reach communities across the district and highlight Supreme Court guidelines on four-way waste segregation.

The Swachhata Rath Yatra was flagged off from the North Tripura district headquarters on Friday as part of a district-wide awareness initiative aimed at promoting cleanliness, source-level waste segregation and responsible waste management among citizens.

The Swachhata Rath was formally flagged off by Chandni Chandran, District Magistrate and Collector, North Tripura, from the district headquarters on October 2. The initiative is intended to take the message of cleanliness and proper waste management directly to communities across the district.

The Rath will travel through different parts of North Tripura over the next one week, reaching out to residents, students and local communities. During its journey, the campaign will focus on creating awareness about the importance of segregating waste at the source and encouraging citizens to adopt responsible waste-management practices in their daily lives.

A key focus of the awareness drive is the recent guidelines of the Supreme Court of India regarding four-way segregation of waste. Through public outreach activities, the campaign seeks to familiarise citizens with the importance of separating waste properly and ensuring that waste is handled in an organised and environmentally responsible manner.

On the first day of its journey, the Swachhata Rath reached Panisagar, where it was received by students. The participation of students marked an encouraging beginning to the district-wide awareness campaign and highlighted the importance of involving younger generations in cleanliness and environmental initiatives.

The campaign is being conducted under the broader message of Swachhata Hi Seva, with an emphasis on public participation and community-level action. The initiative aims to strengthen awareness that effective waste management begins at the point where waste is generated, making source segregation an important part of maintaining clean surroundings.

Officials have encouraged citizens to separate waste at source and cooperate with cleanliness and waste-management initiatives in their respective localities. Public participation is expected to play an important role in ensuring that the awareness generated through the Rath Yatra translates into regular practices at the household and community levels.

The district-wide campaign also seeks to reinforce the connection between proper waste segregation and cleaner neighbourhoods. By travelling across different areas, the Swachhata Rath is expected to provide citizens with information on responsible waste disposal while encouraging communities to take collective responsibility for maintaining hygienic surroundings.

The week-long journey will cover different parts of North Tripura, carrying the messages of cleanliness, source segregation and responsible waste management to a wider section of the population. The initiative is expected to support ongoing efforts to create greater public awareness and participation in cleanliness-related activities across the district.
