Suvendu Adhikari was announced as the next West Bengal Chief Minister after BJP’s massive election victory. Adhikari credited the party’s democratic system for his selection and pledged to fulfil promises while working closely with party workers and the people of Bengal.

Bharatiya Janata Party leader Suvendu Adhikari has been officially declared the next Chief Minister of West Bengal following the party’s sweeping victory in the state Assembly elections. The announcement was made by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, marking a historic political shift in the state as the BJP prepares to form its first government in West Bengal.

Soon after the announcement, Adhikari expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and BJP President Nitin Nabin for placing their trust in him. Addressing reporters, the BJP leader said that his selection reflected the democratic culture within the party, where elected representatives decide their leader collectively.

“This is the democracy in BJP where elected representatives have chosen the leader. I will work to fulfil the commitments made during the elections, taking both the party organisation and the people together,” Adhikari stated.

The BJP secured a landslide victory in the Assembly elections by winning 208 seats, comfortably crossing the majority mark and ending years of dominance by the Trinamool Congress in the state. Adhikari himself emerged as one of the most prominent faces of the election after defeating former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee from the Bhabanipur Assembly constituency. He also registered victory from Nandigram, further strengthening his political stature within the party.

Celebrations erupted among BJP workers and supporters across the state following the announcement. Senior BJP leader Locket Chatterjee described the development as the fulfilment of the party’s long-standing dream of bringing political change to West Bengal.

“Suvendu Da as well as our party workers have fought very hard. Many BJP workers sacrificed their lives during the political struggle. Today their souls would finally feel at peace,” Chatterjee said while speaking to media persons.

She further noted that the formation of the BJP government marked a new chapter in Bengal politics. According to her, the leadership of Suvendu Adhikari and Bengal BJP Chief Samik Bhattacharya would work closely with the people to ensure development and administrative reforms across the state.

Chatterjee also reiterated the BJP’s promise of building a “Sonar Bangla,” adding that the party’s “double engine government” model would focus strongly on women’s safety, infrastructure growth, and employment opportunities.

Several newly elected BJP legislators also welcomed the party’s decision. BJP MLA-elect Bankim Chandra Ghosh said that all elected representatives unanimously supported Adhikari’s name for the top post.

“I and all other MLAs are very happy. We all supported Suvendu Da together. The people of Bengal are also very happy,” Ghosh stated.

Sekhar Ranjan Debnath, husband of BJP MLA-elect Ratna Debnath, also praised the leadership’s decision, saying the party had chosen the most suitable candidate to lead the state government at this crucial moment.

Another BJP MLA-elect, Chandra Sekhar Banerjee, credited Adhikari’s rise to years of hard work and organisational dedication. He claimed that the election results represented the people’s desire for political change and a new governance model in the state.

Political observers believe Adhikari’s appointment could significantly reshape Bengal’s political landscape, especially with the BJP now attempting to establish a long-term administrative presence in a state traditionally dominated by regional parties. The coming weeks are expected to witness the formal swearing-in ceremony and the formation of the new state cabinet under Adhikari’s leadership.
