Former India T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav met Prime Minister Narendra Modi with his family in New Delhi to exchange Diwali greetings. Modi shared photographs of their festive meeting, which attracted attention from cricket fans and supporters across social media.

Former India T20I captain and star cricketer Suryakumar Yadav met Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with his wife and children in New Delhi on Friday to extend festive greetings on the occasion of Diwali. The meeting created a special festive moment, bringing together one of India’s prominent cricket personalities and the country’s Prime Minister.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared photographs of the meeting on his official social media account on X, describing the interaction as a warm and memorable moment during the Diwali celebrations.

In his message, Modi wrote, “Deepwali ke mahual mei Ram and Saryu ka aagman hua hai. Isse Diwali ka vatavaran aur bhi paawan aur divya ho gaya hai.” The Prime Minister’s message highlighted the spiritual significance of the occasion, saying that the arrival of Ram and Saryu had made the festive atmosphere even more sacred and divine.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office, Modi also listened to a bhajan sung by a young girl during the family visit. The interaction added a special personal touch to the festive meeting.

Suryakumar, known among cricket fans for his aggressive batting style and remarkable performances in T20 cricket, expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for his warm hospitality and conveyed his heartfelt Diwali wishes.

The photographs and message shared by Modi attracted attention across social media, with cricket enthusiasts and supporters appreciating the meeting. The occasion also highlighted the connection between India’s sporting personalities and national leadership.

Earlier this year, Suryakumar spoke about the transformation of India’s sporting ecosystem and credited Prime Minister Modi’s emphasis on sports development for the significant changes taking place across the country.

In an interaction with IANS, the cricketer said improvements in sporting infrastructure, opportunities and public attitudes towards sports had become increasingly visible. He described the transformation as substantial and said the country was moving towards becoming a sporting powerhouse.

Recalling his early cricketing journey, Suryakumar said opportunities and infrastructure were limited when he started playing the game. He explained that the lack of adequate facilities had made it difficult for aspiring athletes to pursue sports professionally. However, he acknowledged that the situation had changed considerably, with greater attention being given to sports infrastructure and opportunities for young talent.

The cricketer’s comments reflected the growing importance of sports development and the increasing recognition of professional sports as a career option in India.

Apart from his cricketing commitments, Suryakumar has also expanded his association with international sports. Major League Baseball (MLB) appointed him as its India brand ambassador in July 2026, with the objective of promoting baseball and connecting with Indian sports enthusiasts.

He subsequently participated in MLBx Mumbai, the inaugural 3-on-3 baseball event organised by Major League Baseball in Mumbai on October 24. The event brought together international baseball personalities and Indian cricketers, introducing audiences to the fast-paced format of the sport.
