New Delhi/IBNS: In a setback for Arvind Kejriwal, the Supreme Court on Monday dismissed the former Delhi Chief Ministers plea challenging the defamation case against him over his comment on Prime Minister Narendra Modis educational qualification.

The defamation case was filed by the Gujarat University after Kejriwal made comments questioning the validity of Modis credentials including his degree from Gujarat University.

The Gujarat University considered Kejriwals comments as derogatory and damaging to the institutions reputation.

Piyush Patel, the universitys registrar, filed a criminal defamation suit against Kejriwal and other Aam Aadmi Party leader Sanjay Singh.

The Central Information Commission (CIC) in 2016 directed the Delhi University and Gujarat University to reveal the details of Modis degree.

However, the Gujarat High Court set aside the CICs direction to disclose the details of the Prime Ministers degree.

Kejriwal filed his plea in the top court after the Gujarat High Court dismissed his petition in February 2024.
