Dissident BJP legislators Sudip Roy Barman and Asish Saha resigned from the assembly. Both of them went to meet Speaker Ratan Chakrabarty and submitted their resignations.

Speaker said he received the resignations of the two MLAs but had not ‘accepted’ them as yet.

“I have asked the secretary to assembly to look into the resignation process and find out whether they were submitted following the laid out procedures. If the resignation done in accordance with the procedure then I shall immediately accept them”, said the Speaker.

Earlier two other MLAs also submitted their resignations one from the IPFT Brishaketu Debbarma and one from BJP Asish Das. The resignation  of Brishaketu is still pending and not settled yet.

That the Roy Barman and Saha would resign from the MLAship was already in the air for quite some time as they were also reported to be readying to join Congress. However, Dibachandra Hrangkhawl and Burba Mohan Tripura -two other dissident  BJP MLAs and companions of Roy Barman and Saha  did not join them in resigning.

In all likelihood both the dissident would also resign from the primary membership of the BJP. In that case they would have to either submit their resignation directly to BJP president Dr Manik Saha or might also send their papers via post.

According to reports both Roy Barman and Saha would soon visit Delhi and formally join Congress there in presence of Priyanka Gandhi.
