Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman launched a sharp attack on Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Sunday, accusing him of illegally allotting government land to a private company. During a press conference held at the Pradesh Congress headquarters in Agartala, Roy Barman claimed that the chief minister was planning to allocate around 28 acres of land, owned by the Animal Resources Development (ARD) Department in the Banikya Chowmani area of Bodhjungnagar, to Shija Hospitals without following proper legal procedures.
Roy Barman alleged that the land allocation was done to benefit a handpicked private company and was being carried out without any formal tender or lease agreement. He pointed to a recent incident at the Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) where doctors from out of state, along with those from a private hospital, were brought in for a kidney operation. According to Roy Barman, this incident was part of a broader plan by the government to pave the way for Shija Hospitals to establish a facility on the government-owned land.
Highlighting irregularities in the land allotment process, Roy Barman stressed that any such transfer of land should be done through a formal tender process and can only be leased for a maximum of 30 years. He added that there had been no Cabinet discussion regarding this allocation, which, he argued, was a violation of both land allocation and Cabinet rules.
The Congress MLA also criticized the conduct of the chief minister, accusing him of overstepping constitutional and legal boundaries. “If anyone believes they are above the Constitution or the law after assuming office as Chief Minister, it will not be tolerated,” Roy Barman stated firmly.
He concluded by saying that, if necessary, he would file a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in court to challenge the alleged illegal land allocation. Tripura Pradesh Congress President Asish Kumar Saha was also present at the press conference, lending his support to Roy Barman’s accusations.
