To curb road accidents and safeguard motorcyclists, the State Transport Department has launched an initiative to distribute free helmets. The program, aimed at raising public awareness about road safety, encourages bikers to prioritize their lives over speed.
Minister for Transport and Tourism, Sushanta Chowdhury, led the helmet distribution event at Radhanagar Bus Stand on Friday.
Addressing reporters, Chowdhury stressed that the value of a life far exceeds the cost of a helmet. “By wearing helmets, commuters can significantly reduce the risk of fatal accidents,” he said.
The initiative received positive feedback from motorcyclists, who appreciated the government and the department’s commitment to citizen safety. Transport Commissioner Uttam Kumar Mandal, Additional Secretary of the Transport Department Subrata Chowdhury, Chairman of TRTC Balai Goswami, and SP of the Traffic Department Manik Das were among the dignitaries present at the event.
