The Sri Lankan Cabinet has approved presenting the 2026 Appropriation Bill to Parliament in October this year. The Budget speech is scheduled for November, followed by debate in November and December.
The Budget will align with the “Rich Country – Beautiful Country” policy vision and the National Policy Framework 2026-2030. Emphasising a Production Economy, it aims to mobilise all segments of society, with a strong focus on rural development.
Cabinet Spokesman Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa has said Ministries have been instructed to submit proposals for budgetary allocations in line with the Public Finance Management Act. These will support projects within their domains as per the government’s strategic objectives.
The proposal was submitted by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake in his capacity as Finance Minister.
