In the T20 World Cup Cricket, Sri Lanka defeated the Netherlands by 83 runs to record their only win in the Group D match at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in St Lucia, this morning. Chasing the target of 201 runs, the Netherlands were all out scoring 118 runs in 16.4 overs. For Sri Lanka, Charith Asalanka scored 46 runs from 21 balls, while Kusal Mendis made a quick 46 off 29. Charith Asalanka was adjudged the Player of the Match.

Earlier, the Netherlands won the toss and chose to take the field in the must-win match against Sri Lanka. The team started on a positive note with Paul van Meekeren dismissing Kamindu Mendis in the sixth over, leaving Sri Lanka at 45 for 2. In another match, Bangladesh successfully defeated Nepal by 21 runs at the Arnos Vale Ground, St. Vincent sealing progression to the Super Eight stage of the tournament. Put into bat first, Bangladesh were bundled for 106 in 19.3 overs, while chasing the target, Nepal were bowled out at 85 in 19.2 overs, defeating Nepal by 21 runs. This is the lowest total ever defended by a team in Men’s T20 World Cup. With Bangladesh sealing a place in the Super 8, the Netherlands has been knocked out of the tournament.
