Tripura CM Dr. Manik Saha will visit South Tripura on July 31 to inaugurate and lay foundation stones for development projects worth over Rs 1.02 crore, while launching the Anti-Drug Football Tournament and promoting youth participation in sports across the district.
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha is scheduled to visit South Tripura district on July 31 to inaugurate and lay the foundation stones of several development projects aimed at strengthening public infrastructure and improving essential services in the district.
The information was shared by South Tripura District Magistrate Md. Sajad P during a press briefing held after a review meeting at the Belonia Circuit House on Monday. The meeting reviewed preparations for the Chief Minister’s visit and discussed arrangements for the scheduled programmes.
According to the District Magistrate, Dr. Saha will inaugurate projects worth Rs 39 lakh and lay the foundation stones for projects valued at Rs 63 lakh, taking the total investment to more than Rs 1.02 crore. The projects fall under the Health, Education and Tribal Welfare departments and are expected to contribute significantly to the development of the district.
The inauguration programme will be held at Tuikarma Higher Secondary School ground in the Santirbazar subdivision, where the Chief Minister will address the gathering and formally launch the development initiatives.
Apart from infrastructure development, the Chief Minister’s visit will also focus on youth empowerment and the promotion of sports as a means to combat substance abuse. Dr. Saha will inaugurate the fourth edition of the South Tripura District Anti-Drug Football Tournament at Dakshin Matai under Rishyamukh Block. He will also attend the closing ceremony of the second edition of the Mud Football Tournament, recognising the district’s efforts to engage young people in constructive sporting activities.
The District Magistrate said the Anti-Drug Football Tournament, first introduced in 2023, has gained significant recognition and has now been included under the Khelo India programme. As part of this inclusion, the tournament will receive financial assistance from the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, providing additional support for its expansion and long-term sustainability.
He further informed that this year’s edition of the tournament will include an Under-17 girls’ competition for the first time, alongside the existing Under-17 boys’ category. The inclusion of girls’ participation reflects the administration’s commitment to encouraging equal opportunities in sports and promoting wider community involvement.
The district administration believes that sports can play a vital role in steering young people away from substance abuse while promoting discipline, teamwork and healthy lifestyles. Officials stated that similar awareness-based sporting events would continue in the future as part of the administration’s broader anti-drug campaign.

The review meeting was attended by Cooperation Minister Shuklacharan Noatia, South Tripura Zilla Parishad Sabhadhipati Dipak Dutta, MLAs Pramod Reang, Mailafru Mog, and Swapna Majumdar, along with senior district officials. They reviewed logistical arrangements and coordinated preparations to ensure the successful conduct of the Chief Minister’s visit and the associated development and sporting events.
