South Korean Defence Minister Shin Won-sik emphasized the need for strong readiness against North Korea’s provocations. Mr. Shin made this statement during a meeting with top military commanders, where they discussed potential provocations by North Korea and South Korea’s preparedness to respond to such threats.
The meeting took place the day after North Korean leader Kim Jong-un’s influential sister warned of severe consequences for South Korea if it allowed North Korean defectors to continue sending anti-Pyongyang leaflets northward. The Ministry also cautioned about the risk of North Korean land mines possibly drifting into South Korea due to heavy rainfall, advising the public against handling suspected land mines or suspicious objects in border areas.
