The debate over Team Indias captaincy has once again kickstarted following the conclusion of the 50-over World Cup, where the men in blue were outplayed by Australia in the final.
The Indian cricket board, BCCI, has already announced sides for the South African tour where India will play three T20Is, the same number of ODIs and two Tests against the Proteas.
Rohit Sharma, who didnt play a single T20 match since India were knocked out of the last T20 World Cup semi-final, will lead the side in the shortest and the longest formats of the hugely popular sport in India.
In absence of Rohit and regular vice-captain Hardik Pandya, KL Rahul will lead in ODIs against South Africa.
Amid the ongoing debate over the captaincy, former India captain and ex-BCCI president Sourav Ganguly feels Rohit should continue as the skipper till the T20 World Cup 2024.
Rohit Sharma should be the captain of India because hes done so well in the World Cup. Hes a leader.
So I expect, and I presume that he will continue as captain till the T20 World Cup, Ganguly, during whose tenure Rohit was appointed as captain, said.
Under Rohits captaincy, India went on to reach finals of World Test Championship 2023 and 50-over World Cup.
