Continuing their dominance, six Arunachal Pradesh boxers ensured medals by making it to the semifinals at the ongoing 5th Junior Boys National Boxing Championship in Itanagar.
In their respective weight categories six pugilists of the state including Techi Jacky in 46th kg, Loma Riang in 50kg, Nanthok Hodong in 54kg, Tagio Liyak in 57kg and Tarh Lonia in 60th kg registered victories in their quarterfinal clashes.
However, Gaykie Rie in the 52nd kg category also made it to the last four stages after receiving a walkover from his Punjab opponent in the light bantamweight division quarterfinal.
Techi started the campaign for the home side with a 5-0 unanimous decision victory over Aakash Badhwar of the Services Sports Control Board in their 46kg Pinweight category bout.
In the 50kg Flyweight category quarterfinal bout, Loma Riang got victory over Haryana’s Vansh by a 3:2 split decision verdict.
In the 54kg Bantamweight category, Nanthok Hodong has been declared winner by unanimous decision against Punjab’s Arshpreet Singh. In the 57kg featherweight section, Tagio Liyak defeated Jassan Deep of the Services by 3-2. In the 60kg Lightweight category bout, Tarh Lonia ensured a Referee Stop Contest victory over S Hariharan of Tamil Nadu.
However, a couple of state’s pugilists suffered setbacks as Tarok Gango lost 5-0 to Ravindra Padvi of Maharashtra in the light flyweight 48kg category clash, while Tangu Ngomle also met a similar fate in the hands of Uttarakhand’s Karan Singh in the Lightweight category 63kg quarterfinal.
The semifinals will be played tomorrow.
