In Sikkim, Governor Om Prakash Mathur and Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang-Golay paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at MG Marg, Gangtok on the 155th Gandhi Jayanti today.
The event marked the culmination of the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign, themed “Swabhav Swachhata – Sanskaar Swachhata,” in honour of Gandhi Ji’s legacy of cleanliness and service.
Awards were presented for cleanliness initiatives, with the Mangan Nagar Panchayat, winning a 10,00,000 rupees award for being the Cleanest Urban Local Body.
Other notable awards were given to Safaimitras, Gram Panchayats, and the State Circuit House under the Swachhata Green Leaf Rating system. The Mangan District was recognized as the best-performing district.
A new initiative, Swaccha Sahar Abhiyan, was also highlighted, rewarding the best-performing Self Help Group (SHG) from Namchi.
