Today, the 49th State Day of Sikkim commemorating its formation as the 22nd State of the Indian Union was celebrated with great fervor at Chintan Bhawan, Gangtok.

The ceremony commenced with dignitaries garlanding and offering khadas at the statue of the late Padma Vibhushan L.D. Kazi, Sikkim’s inaugural Chief Minister, within the premises of Chintan Bhawan.

Governor Laxman Prasad Acharya congratulated the people of Sikkim on completing 49 years as an integral part of India, praising the state’s remarkable journey and development across various sectors.

Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang highlighted Sikkim’s advancements as one of India’s most progressive states, emphasizing opportunities for growth in entrepreneurship, agriculture, tourism, and other sectors.

Chief Secretary V B Pathak underscored the celebration as a moment of reflection on Sikkim’s unique identity and praised the state’s achievements in economic inclusivity, infrastructure, education, healthcare, organic farming, and tourism.

The event featured Vedic chanting, mantra recitations by monks, hymns, and renditions of patriotic songs by students from various schools, including those catering to children with disabilities.

A book titled “Hamro Sankalp: Viksit Bharat Pushpit Sikkim” by Raj Bhavan and a documentary titled “Statehood Symphony: Nearing the Golden Jubilee” were released during the program, along with a video titled “Sikkim: Where Nature Meets Smiles” by Raj Bhavan.

The celebration also set the stage for preparations towards the grand celebration of Sikkim’s 50th Statehood, “Swarna Jayanti” or Golden Jubilee.
