Both the past rivals CPM and Congress sat together in a press conference and called for ouster of the ruling BJP from Tripura.
On Monday the two allies met the media and opined that the next February 16 elections would be the opportunity for the people to rout the ‘fascist BJP’ from the power.
Addressing the joint press conference with the Congress party, the CPM state secretary Jitendra Choudhuri said, “During the last five years, BJP adopted the policy of launching fascistic attacks on the oppositions and common citizens to continue its misrule,” he alleged, adding the democracy which remained throttled for the last five years needs to be restored.
He said, “Both Congress and CPM – the secular and democratic parties have come together to rescue the people of this state from a suffocating atmosphere continuing for the past five years under BJP’s rule.”
On the other hand, the AICC secretary and state in-charge Szarita Laitphlang questioned the role of the Election Commission over the discharge of the duty of the commission and said, “Despite assurances of the level playing field in the coming election based on their Zero Poll Violence mission, the ‘Bike Bahinis’ continue to create havoc across the state, while a section of police officers playing a role of silent spectators.”
She said, “The opposition parties are always facing troubles while seeking permissions for holding rallies and campaigns, whereas the BJP goons are doing nuisances in the name of party campaigning and rallies across the state at their whims.”
Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee President Birajit Sinha and representatives of the frontal organisations of the Left front among others were present at the press conference on Monday.
