Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) Mayor Dipak Majumder,  AMC Commissioner Sailesh Kumar Yadav, West District SP Traffic Manik Das, and other senior officials of the Corporation  conducted an inspection of the IGM Chowmuhani area on Thursday. The visit began from Abala Chowmuhani and proceeded through the office lane, focusing on areas where illegal encroachments have been reported.

During the inspection, Mayor Majumder expressed his concern over the growing number of shops that have extended their structures illegally by constructing tin shades over the cover drains. These unauthorized expansions, he noted, have not only violated municipal regulations but have also created significant disruptions in the area. The extensions have led to the obstruction of traffic flow and reduced the availability of parking spaces, worsening congestion on already busy city roads.

In response to these violations, Mayor Majumder issued strict orders for the removal of these illegal structures within the next seven days. He stressed that while the city provides designated areas for businesses to operate, some shop owners have chosen to expand beyond their allotted spaces, infringing upon public areas and compromising the infrastructure. The Mayor made it clear that such actions would not be tolerated and that immediate steps would be taken to restore order.

Additionally, the Mayor warned that traders operating without proper licenses would face similar actions. The municipal authorities are determined to enforce regulations to ensure that public spaces are used appropriately and that all businesses operate within the legal framework. The seven-day deadline has been set for compliance, after which the AMC will take decisive action to remove any remaining illegal constructions and unauthorized trading activities.

The Mayor’s visit and subsequent orders underscore the AMC’s commitment to maintaining the city’s infrastructure and reducing traffic congestion, while also ensuring that businesses adhere to the regulations in place. This move is part of a broader effort to enhance the quality of life for residents by ensuring that public spaces are used efficiently and responsibly.
