In a shocking tragedy, three children lost their lives in a drowning incident that unfolded on Sunday in the Khowai River, Gudaraghat area of Paschim Ganki. The victims were identified as Mautusi Das (12) from Moharchhara, Saptdwip Nama (7) from Bishalgarh, and Babli Roy (11) from Gudaraghat area.

According to reports, on Sunday morning, Mautusi, Saptdwip, Babli, and Ayan Das went to the river for a bath. Despite the attempts of their grandfather, Gopal Nama Das, to prevent them from venturing into the water, he was only able to stop Ayan, while the other three proceeded towards the river. Tragically, fate took a sudden turn, and all three children were swept away by the river’s currents.

As Gopal Nama Das raised an alarm, Rajkumar Jamatia, the Officer-in-Charge of Khowai Police Station, happened to pass by the spot and immediately joined the effort, urging villagers to help rescue the children. Local residents promptly jumped into the river, managing to retrieve the lifeless bodies of Babli and Saptdwip. However, despite their efforts, Mautusi remained unaccounted for. After more than an hour, Mautusi’s body was found floating in the river. The children were rushed to Khowai District Hospital, where doctors pronounced them brought dead.

Following the completion of post-mortem examinations, the police handed over the bodies to the grieving families, casting a pall of sorrow over the area.

Expressing his condolences, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha conveyed his sympathies to the bereaved family members. In a social media post, he wrote, “My deepest condolences to the bereaved families. Praying to God to give them strength to bear the pain.” The Chief Minister’s message also emphasized the need for parents to exercise extra caution with their children to prevent such tragic accidents.

Local sources revealed that two married daughters of Gopal Nama Das had recently arrived at his house in Gudaraghat area of Paschim Ganki Village Panchayat to attend a social event held on Saturday.

The incident has left the entire community in grief as they mourn the loss of three young lives, while local authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
