Sharjah, UAE: The emirate of Sharjah witnessed a remarkable spectacle as six thousand strong Indian diaspora gathered at the grounds of Skyline University for an unforgettable mass yoga session. The event, organized in close collaboration between Skyline University Sharjah, the Sports Council of Sharjah, and the Consulate General of India in Dubai, marked a captivating prelude to the much-anticipated ninth International Day of Yoga on June 21st. With the sun gracefully descending beyond the horizon and the campus aglow with vibrant lights, the serene ambiance set the stage for a truly momentous occasion.
The highlight of the event was the remarkable coming together of frontline workers, including nurses, students, and members of the Indian and international communities residing in the UAE. Participants showcased their dedication to health and well-being as they gracefully practiced various yoga asanas,pranayama and guided meditation creating a mesmerizing atmosphere of unity and harmony.Under the overarching theme of ‘Yoga for Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,’ which emphasizes the oneness of our global family, the diverse range of participants symbolized the unity that can be achieved through the practice of yoga.
In his address, the Consul General of India expressed his gratitude and recognition for the contributions made by the Indian community, numbering around 3.5 million in the UAE. He emphasized the strong bond between the people of India and the United Arab Emirates and praised the comprehensive partnership between the two nations, which serves as a role model for collaboration and mutual benefits.The Consul General extended his heartfelt appreciation to the ruling family and various institutions of the UAE for their continuous support in all aspects of the Indian community’s lives in the country. He further highlighted the significance of the International Day of Yoga celebration in the UAE, describing it as one of the largest and most memorable events worldwide.
Distinguished guests, including Salem Yousef Al Qaseer, Chairman of the Labour Standards Development Authority (LSDA), Shri Shashi Menon, President Ekata, Shri Venkatesh President of Friends of India UAE, and Shri Jithendra Vaidya from the Indian Peoples Forum, attended the event. They took the opportunity to share their insights on the mental and spiritual benefits of practicing yoga, underscoring its positive impact on individuals and communities.
The mass yoga session at Sharjah exemplified the Indian diaspora’s commitment to promoting wellness, unity, and the universal message of yoga. It served as a powerful reminder of the transformative power of yoga, bringing people together from diverse backgrounds for a common purpose of achieving physical, mental, and spiritual well-being.
