Share Market: Sensex Gains 609 Points, Nifty Rises 182 Points to Close Higher

Benchmark domestic equity indices rebounded today and closed with gains of 0.8 per cent. The Sensex rose 609 points to close at 77 thousand and 496, while the Nifty advanced 182 points to settle at 24 thousand and 178. However, broader market indices on the National Stock Exchange remained mixed. The Midcap 100 dipped almost 0.1 per cent, while the Smallcap 100 added more than 0.6 per cent.
Earlier, the market opened with a gap-up as the new series began in Nifty futures and options contracts. The Sensex and Nifty traded on a bullish note until afternoon trade but later pared some of their intraday gains as crude oil prices surged in the last few hours of trading.
In the Sensex pack, shares of 22 out of 30 companies registered profits. Among the top performers, ITC soared 3.9 per cent, Tech Mahindra climbed 3.1 per cent and Maruti rose 2.8 per cent. In contrast, Indigo shed 2.4 per cent, NTPC lost 1.3 per cent, and Bajaj Finserv fell by 0.8 per cent.
In the sectoral indices at the BSE, 16 out 25 sectors ended in positive territory. In the top gainers, FMCG climbed 1.6 per cent, Realty jumped 1.4 per cent, and Energy added 1.1 per cent. Among the top losers, Utilities lost 1.2 per cent, Power lost over one per cent, and Consumer Durables, PSU Bank and Hospitals fell by more than 0.4 per cent.
The overall market breadth at the BSE was positive, as shares of 2 thousand 120 companies advanced, 2 thousand 112 declined, and 170 remained unchanged.
