Sensex, Nifty Fall for Sixth Straight Session; End Nearly 1% Lower

Benchmark domestic equity indices, Sensex and Nifty, opened lower and fell for the sixth straight session on the last day of trade for the week. Indices extended their initial losses to end 0.9 per cent down today.
 
The Sensex shed 733 points, or 0.9 per cent, to close at 80 thousand 426, while Nifty dropped 236 points, or 0.95 per cent, to settle at 24 thousand 655. The broader market indices at the Bombay Stock Exchange also ended in the negative zone. The Mid-Cap index lost almost two per cent, while the Small-Cap index decreased by over two per cent.
In the Forex market, the rupee today depreciated by five paise to close at 88 rupees and 71 paise against the US dollar.
