Sensex moves up 848.40 points on Union Budget day

The equity market remained firm for another session on Tuesday as the BSE Sensex posted massive gains of 848.40 points to close high at 58,862.57 following gains in metal, materials, capital goods and FMCG stocks amid a positive Asian Market.

The equity market reacted on a positive note to the proposals of Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced while announcing the general budget on Tuesday.

The Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) too moved up 237.90 points at 17,576.85.

The day opened on a strong note as the BSE Sensex surged 658 points at 58,672.86.

During the day it was shot up 1,018 pointts at 59,032.20, the day’s high before closing at 58,862.57, up 848.40 points from its previous close.

It fell nearly 277 pointts at 57,737.66, the day’s low.

The Sensex registered the day’s high and low at 59,032.20 and 57,737.66 respectively.

The Nifty recorded the day’s high and low at 17,622.40 and 17,244.55 respectively.

In sectoral indices, metal was a top gainer, up by 4.92 per cent followed by materials by 3.23 per cent, capital goods by 2.93 per cent and FMCG by 1.85 per cent.

In scrips, Tata Steel was a star gainer up by 7.57 per cent to Rs 1,167.65 followed by Sun Pharma by 6.94 per cent to Rs 892.05, IndusInd Bank by 6.10 per cent to Rs 925, L& T by 4.48 per cent to Rs 1,994.45 and Ultracemco by 4.33 per cent to Rs 7,527.05.

The losers were M&M by 1.30 per cent to Rs 873.50, Powergrid by 1.18 per cent to Rs 212.85, SBI by 1.13 per cent to Rs 532.25 and Bharti Airtel by 0.91 per cent to Rs 722.25.

The Mid Cap rose by 1.08 per cent and Small Cap by 0.92 per cent. In 30 scrips, 23 advanced while 7 declined.

The Asian market was seen strong as Nikkei 225 was up by 0.28 per cent, Straits Times by 0.10 per cent and Kospi by 1.87 per cent.
