Benchmark domestic equity indices closed on a bearish note today. The indices opened in negative territory and extended their losses throughout the day. However, in the last hour, the indices managed to retain some of their losses. The Sensex plunged 610 points or 0.71 per cent, to close at 85 thousand 103, while the Nifty slipped 226 points or 0.86 per cent, to settle at 25 thousand and 961. The broader market indices at the Bombay Stock Exchange also tanked. The Mid-Cap index fell over 1.7 per cent, while the Small-Cap index lost 2.2 per cent.
 
 
In the Sensex pack, 26 out of 30 companies edged downward. Among the top laggards, Bharat Electronics Limited tumbled five per cent, Eternal lost more than 2.4 per cent and Trent fell over 2.3 per cent. In the gainers, Tech Mahindra increased 1.4 per cent, HCL Tech rose 0.3 per cent and Reliance added 0.1 per cent. 
 
 
Across sectoral indices at the BSE, all 21 sectors ended with losses. Among the key decliners, Services shed 3.7 per cent, Realty dipped three and half a per cent and Capital Goods dropped over 2.8 per cent.
 
 
The overall market breadth at the BSE was negative, as shares of 3,348 companies declined, 950 advanced, and 187 remained unchanged.
