Sensex climbs 521 points, Nifty crosses 24,400

Dalal Street kicked off the trading week on a strong note, with benchmark indices advancing nearly 0.7 per cent.
 
The gains marked the fourth consecutive winning session, reflecting sustained buying interest and positive market sentiment. The Sensex climbed 521 points to close at 78,285. 
 
The Nifty added 160 points to settle at 24 thousand and 430. In the broader market on the National Stock Exchange, the Midcap 100 index rose over 0.4 percent while the Smallcap 100 index gained more than 0.7 per cent.
 
In the Sensex pack, shares of 16 out of 30 companies registered losses. Among the top underperformers, Kotak Mahindra Bank shed 3.9 per cent, Tata Consultancy Services dropped 1.7 per cent, and Bajaj Finserv lost one percent.
 
Conversely, HDFC Bank soared 3.6 per cent, Mahindra and Mahindra surged two per cent and Bharat Electronics Limited jumped 1.8 per cent.  
 
In the sectoral indices on the BSE, 19 out of 25 sectors ended in the positive zone.
 
Among the key gainers, Realty jumped 1.8 percent, the Private Bank index rose one and a half percent, and the MidSmall Private Banks Quality Tilt index added 1.4 per cent.
 
In contrast, the PSU Bank index shed one percent, Hospitals as well as IT fell 0.6 per cent, and Focused IT lost half a per cent. 
 
The overall market breadth at the BSE was negative, as shares of 2 thousand 286 declined, 2 thousand 55 companies advanced, and 203 remained unchanged.
