The Returning Officer for the West Parliamentary Constituency and the District Magistrate, Dr. Vishal Kumar, conducted an inspection of the strong room and vote counting centre at Agartala Umakanta Academy on Saturday.
The Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and VVPAT machines from the 14 assembly segments of the West Parliamentary Constituency are securely stored in the strong room.
Dr. Kumar assured the media that stringent three-layer security measures will be in place on counting day. Additionally, security forces will be deployed in identified sensitive areas to maintain peace and order. He detailed the comprehensive action plan for pre-counting and post-counting security arrangements in these sensitive regions.
Dr. Kumar elaborated on the security plan, adding that precautions were taken during both the pre-counting and post-counting phases to ensure a smooth operation in sensitive areas. The strong room where the EVMs are stored is constantly monitored by appointed officers and representatives of various political parties. “The guarding of the EVMs is enhanced by CRPF personnel and monitored through a live CCTV surveillance system to ensure the integrity of the voting machines,” he told reporters.
Furthermore, Dr. Kumar mentioned that training sessions for counting supervisors, counting assistants, and micro-observers have been completed across all subdivisions. Currently, the counting agents from different political parties are undergoing their respective training.
