The Supreme Court has asked the Uttar Pradesh government to defer the bulldozer action in Bahraich till tomorrow. Appearing on behalf of the state government, Additional Solicitor General K.M. Nataraj, agreed before an Apex Court bench today that district authorities will not take any coercive action till tomorrow.
Earlier, the court agreed to urgently hear the applications filed against the proposed demolitions on Wednesday. Last week, the Public Works Department (PWD) of the state had marked a couple of houses in Bahraich, including that of key accused in the murder of Ram Gopal Mishra for demolition.
The Supreme Court, in an interim order passed on September 17, directed that no demolition will take place anywhere in the country except without its permission. The decision had come after several petitions alleging that bulldozer action was taken by various state authorities without sufficient notice.
