(Updated) The political situation in the state is turning volatile with sporadic clashes between the TMC and BJP for the last few days.
On Sunday situation worsened as TMC leader Sayani Ghosh passed some taunting remarks while passing a BJP poll even where Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb was supposed to address. Her taunts , though passed from the vehicle from which she was travelling could be heard and immediately it triggered huge reactions amongst the BJP workers. They chased the vehicle and tried to attack the TMC leader.
However, soon after an FIR was lodged against Sayani Ghosh andshe was summoned to East Agartala Women Police station. As the news spread hundreds of BJP workers arrived there and started shouting slogans. An altercation with the TMC supporters then followed which soon turned into violence. The BJP workers went full guns blazing and attacked the TMC leaders and workers in front of the police and security personnel. Some TMC workers were also injured in the attack. TMC vehicles were also vandalized.
Police later at around 4 pm arrested Sayani Ghosh.
At night a group of miscreants allegedly BJP supporters attacked TMC convenor Subal Bhowmik’s residence at Lal Bahadur Choumuhani. Three photo journalists and one reporter from West Bengal were also attacked and one journalist’s scooty was damaged.
In the meantime, TMC leaders from West Bengal took to social media platforms and accused the BJP government for attacking and thwarting the opposition voice.
Another report said, as many as 15 TMC MPs in New Delhi sought a meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah. They were also reportedly planning to stage a dharna in Delhi.
Sources said, TMC general secretary Abhishek Bannerjee will be arriving here on Monday.
Sayani Ghosh’s lawyer Sankar Lodh said the IPC sections that the police slammed like that 307 – which is attempt to murder -against his client do not stand at all. He said when she would be produced before the court a bail petition would be moved for her release.
On the other hand a BJP leader said the TMC leaders are trying to foment violence with their taunts and abusive comments, especially against the Chief Minister.
“These TMC leaders are full of mischiefs”, he said and the added that “they know it very well that any taunt or abuse directed to the Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, who is popular amongst the young party workers, would immediately trigger massive retaliation. And they intentionally do it so that violence and clashes erupt and they then fish in the muddy water—going whole hog in the social media and creating a bad image of the BJP as well as the state. Their mischiefs are increasing everyday as the civic polls are drawing near”.
“It is their poll strategy. But it would not work here as people can see through their design”, he added.
