Union Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat today said that saree is not merely a piece of attire, rather a magnificent symbol of Indian culture. The Minister said this in a video message during Saree Shastra in New Delhi. Mr Shekhawat underlined the mastery of wearing one saree in multiple ways, the craft of designing and weaving a single saree in diverse styles. Highlighting the tradition of representing culture through sarees, he said that exhibitions and events like this help spread awareness about India’s tradition of wearing and weaving sarees, and understanding which saree suits which occasion far and wide.

Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Raksha Khadse said that the exhibition serves as a prime example of presenting diverse states and culture through sarees. The Minister said that the exhibition brings together artists from across the country and aims to present their work through the medium of the saree. He said, it reflects the country’s rich culture, which is being conveyed through saree craftsmanship.

Saree Shastra is a three-day exhibition to honour the women who weave, preserve and wear sarees. The event reimangines the saree as one of India’s most enduring cultural artefact.
